Chinese students return to The Birkenhead Park School
11 July 2016
The two schools signed a partnership in March 2014 to forge both cultural and educational links for students in both schools.
Staff and students from The Birkenhead Park School travelled over to China earlier this year, and after visiting Birkenhead in November 2015, TEMS made a return trip to BPS in July 2016.
Head of Performing Arts, ICT and PE, Mrs Houghton is one of the teachers who went to China back in March, she said: “It was such an amazing trip and we are so glad they wanted to come back and see us as I think it is so important that we continue to develop our cultural partnership. Both parties get so much from the relationship and it is a unique opportunity that our students would otherwise never get.”
The group of 35 students and 3 staff were welcomed by Headteacher Helen Johnson, before being buddied up with students at the school.
They visited lessons and experienced life at the school and also visited local attractions in Liverpool and Cheshire before ending their trip in London.
Headteacher Helen Johnson said: “It is such a pleasure to welcome our Chinese counterparts back to The Birkenhead Park School and I know they will gain a lot from the experience. Staff at the school have worked hard to build up and maintain our international links which we are very proud of. Both sets of students enjoy learning about a different culture and seeing it in practice and it opens up new opportunities for them all.
Taicang is near the Chinese City of Shanghai, and is twinned with Wirral. The Birkenhead Park School is the first school in Wirral to have visited this area of China.
The Birkenhead Park School is also linked with schools in Germany and Denmark
