Portland Primary visit for a taste of Spain
30 November 2016
Visitors from Portland Primary School’s Year 5 spent the morning speaking Spanish and tasting tapas as they came to the Birkenhead Park School for a little sample of Spain’s culture.
The Birkenhead Park School Spanish teacher, Ms Pineau, helped the class learn in a food-themed session, with the Portland Primary students focusing on their Spanish speaking skills while taking up the role of ordering in a restaurant. The learning games encompassed a variety of words, including colours and verbs along with the numerous foods, and the students’ pronunciations and accents were extremely impressive.
All their hard work was then rewarded with a feast of traditional Spanish tapas for lunch, with chorizo, olives, tortilla and Spanish meatballs all on the menu.
Ms Pineau visits Portland Primary School from the Birkenhead Park School each week to give students a head-start with their foreign language abilities, and the Year 5 trip to the School helped to bring all their learning to life before they soon make the step up to secondary school.
