Frank Field MP visits The Birkenhead Park School
17 July 2019
The Member of Parliament for Birkenhead has paid a visit to the school and joined Year 7 students in their weekly debating club.
Frank Field, who has represented Birkenhead in Parliament since 1979, came to The Birkenhead Park School last week to see the incredible changes that have taken place over the years. After meeting with Headteacher, Mrs Johnson, Mr Field was given a tour of the school and then taken along to our Year 7 students weekly debating club ‘Family Lunch’.
The ‘Family Lunch’ debating society forms part of the school’s exciting new ‘100 Club’ which offers students a reinvigorated extracurricular programme. The clubs, including over 15 brand new additions, give students an extra opportunity to get involved in a mix of arts, sports, media and educational activities.
During ‘Family Lunch’, students are given a topic to discuss, which they then come up with arguments both for and against.
At the end of his visit, the students presented Mr Field with a cheque for over £150 which they had raised through a ‘Copper Challenge’, collecting spare small change coins. The money raised was given to Mr Field for a cause very close to his heart - ‘Feeding Birkenhead’, a local food charity.
After his visit, Mr Field said: “Huge thanks for a wonderful trip, and thank you for the cheque which will go toward more than 80 meals and fun in the summer holiday.”
