Race for Life in Aid of Cancer Research UK
The Morning Mile is a fun, extracurricular club motivating students to get moving in the morning! Every day during Breakfast Club, participating students can join one of the school's PE teachers to either run or walk a mile before lessons begin.
The Birkenhead Park School will soon be participating in this year’s Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK. Therefore, taking part in the Morning Mile is a great way for students to prepare both mentally and physically for the charity event. By regularly attending and actively participating, students have the chance to win an award and become ‘Morning Mile champions’! One of the school’s Morning Mile champions, Charlie in Year 7, said: “I like the Morning Mile because I really enjoy running, I have done a lot of cross country outside of school. I take part because I feel like the Morning Mile sets me up for my day in school.”
Exercise can also positively impact our mental health by reducing stress and making us feel more energised, so following Mental Health Awareness Week, the Morning Mile club is a fantastic opportunity for students to boost their endorphins whilst training for the Race for Life by completing a mile each morning. The club is a great way for students to improve their fitness as well as their mood. PE teacher, Mr Brown, says: “ It’s wonderful to see students taking part. Exercise is great in the morning as it releases lots of endorphins giving us that feel good factor!”
The Morning Mile is held every day outside on the main yard. All year groups are welcome to join and begin training for the upcoming Race for Life. More information on extracurricular clubs can be found here.
