Incredible school community fundraising efforts for Ukraine
11 May 2022
Our school community has followed the continuing situation in Ukraine with compassion and concern, and the decision was made to raise money to support Ukraine, whilst educating our students. Despite the seriousness of the situation, it was a fun couple of weeks, with the students at The Birkenhead Park School smashing their fundraising target of £750, to raise an incredible £1216 for Ukraine.
They’ve been saving up their coins for the copper challenge, and the teachers have been making cakes to sell, both of which raised £353 and £135 respectively.
On the last day of term, students came to school in their own clothes (and some in fancy dress!), and they were also able to buy a ticket to ‘Pie the Teacher’, organised by the Maths Department. This proved to be very popular, unsurprisingly! Our brave teachers took to the stage, and students could choose who they wanted to pie. It looks like all of the teachers were taken by sur-PIES by our students’ great aim. Everyone was well and truly covered.
Headteacher at The Birkenhead Park School, Helen Johnson, said: “It’s been a fundraising effort of two halves – with the activities we’ve done, we’ve tried to make it positive, but there was always a serious message behind it. I’m very proud of all of our students and staff, and what they’ve achieved in support of Ukraine.”
The money raised will all go towards Ukraine and the ongoing crisis via UNICEF, working to scale up the life-saving support for children and their families. They already have staff and logistics on the ground and will be able to target support where it is most needed, both rapidly and effectively.
