School’s former students ace their A Levels
17 August 2018
The Birkenhead Park School’s former students did us proud on A Level Results Day, with many receiving top grades at Birkenhead Sixth Form College and going onto highly respected universities and employment opportunities.
Familiar faces from GCSE Results Day at the school just two years ago found out their A Level and BTEC results on Thursday, all the while watched by live national BBC TV cameras for the Breakfast show and a host of other local press and radio.
Among the many happy students was top performer Lauren Leyland. Having left The Birkenhead Park School in 2016 with outstanding GCSE results, Lauren’s hard work in Fine Art, Biology and Chemistry at the College saw her achieve three A*s – the highest possible grades.
Lauren now heads to York University to study Chemistry and she said: “The hard work has definitely been worth it. I didn’t sleep well last night to be honest, but I couldn’t be happier now. It’s been incredible, and an incredible two years at the College.”
Fellow students are left stunned by Lauren's results
Lauren’s emotional mum could only add: “I haven’t stopped crying all morning.”
Another smiling face from The Birkenhead Park School alumni was Abdou Jouma.
Abdou only came to the UK at the age of 12 from Syria but has since achieved remarkable GCSE grades at the school and is now set to train to become a doctor at the University of Central Lancashire.
Picking up his A Level results with his extremely proud parents, determined Abdou said: “It’s been a nervous 24 hours. Even in work, I couldn’t concentrate because these results were all I could think about! I must’ve woken up six or seven times in the night too but it’s all been worth it. I can’t thank my parents, my friends and the College enough for helping me achieve what I have. Coming to the College has been such a great step in between my time at school and university.”

Joining Abdou was former school student Crina Pricop.
Crina took her GCSEs at the The Birkenhead Park School in 2016 and achieved top grades despite English being her third language.
She continued her phenomenal achievements in her A Levels and earned a place at her first choice university of Sheffield to read Chemical Engineering.
Crina said: “When I first opened my results I was happy but I wasn’t sure if I’d got a place still. I came into College and found out that I’d got in and I’m so happy now. I’m so excited to discover this new field of science and find out what career doors it can open.
“It’s been a great life experience over the last few years and it’s really prepared me for what I want to achieve next.”
