Students receive a stage combat class from local youth theatre
12 November 2019
‘Off The Ground’ Youth Theatre visited students this week to teach them the art of stage combat.
The theatre company, who are based in West Kirby, are the only youth theatre in this region to offer such a wide range of stage experience- from Shakespeare to stage combat and physical theatre. All classes and projects are led by professional actors, writers, directors and musicians.
Stage combat is a specialised technique designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers.
Mr Osgood, Drama Teacher at The Birkenhead Park School, said: “We are privileged to be able to provide fantastic opportunities like this to our students. The students have loved learning a new skill which will help them with their Drama GCSE. We are looking forward to working with ‘Off The Ground’ theatre again.”
Year 9 student, Riley, said: “I really enjoyed learning to do stage combat. It has taught me some new techniques to use when I am acting. Off The Ground Theatre were brilliant to work with and really helpful and friendly.”
Drama at The Birkenhead Park School started last year and is proving to be a great success in giving students a broader range of skills and building their confidence and creativity.
