Students pack out ‘What Next?’ Careers Fair to learn about their futures
23 November 2023
At The Birkenhead Park School, we believe that preparation should start early, long before your child becomes an adult. Therefore all of our students attended our Careers Fair today, as part of our fully comprehensive Careers programme, ensuring that our students get the best and most current advice for their futures. Students got the chance to speak to local colleges and employers, and learn about possible apprenticeships as part of their career path after leaving The Birkenhead Park School.
Education and careers providers included The Royal Air Force, Army, Everton College, Tranmere Rovers Education Hub, LIPA, Merseyside Police, MODE Training, Hugh Baird College and of course Birkenhead Sixth Form College, where many of our students attend after leaving us. Our Careers Programme is an integral part of the school curriculum. It gives students ambition and resilience to create positive future outcomes and provides them with the knowledge to succeed in their chosen career.
It is delivered throughout Years 7-11, with the aim of all students gaining as many engaging and realistic opportunities as possible during their time at school. We want all students to realise their true potential and strive to achieve their best. A young person's career reflects the choices and progress they make in learning and work. It is part of our mission at The Birkenhead Park School that all our students have a planned programme of activities to help you make those decisions.
Sarah, a Year 10 student, said: “I’d never really considered working in the Police before, but having chatted with them, I’ve learnt that there is a huge variety of jobs within the Police force, and it’s definitely something I’m going to look into further”. In fact many students commented that it had opened their eyes up to careers they didn’t know existed, and hadn’t considered before.
In addition to this, all KS4 students (Years 10 & 11) have access to a careers advisor, offering personal guidance, who will support with a range of important activities, including:
- Applying to sixth form/FE colleges
- Applying for apprenticeships
- Support with CV writing
- Researching LMI and employment opportunities
This information is especially helpful for our students to receive before our Year 9 Options evening, and also our Year 11 Information Evening.
